The uber-popular television series, Star Trek, made it's leap to the big screen in 1979 with Star Trek: The Motion Picture. As an above average sci-fi flick, it did not garner much acclaim. Not until the sequel, The Wrath of Kahn, was Star Trek destined to become one of the most successful movie franchises in the history of film. With a total of 10 films (thus far) and 4 spinoff television series, Star Trek has become as much a part of American culture as it has a way of life for it's dedicated fanbase, the Trekkies.
